🕴️ When does it make sense to use an interim manager?

I am often asked this question - especially as I coach newcomers to interim management on a part-time basis. It is often assumed that interim managers are mainly in demand in times of crisis. However, my answer to this is always: "In both cases - both in economically prosperous times and in phases of uncertainty."

📈 In growth phases, companies need managers who are available at short notice in order to:
- to absorb power peaks,
- to bridge temporary vacancies,
- or to open up new markets with external expertise.

📉 In times of crisis, on the other hand, interim managers are used to:
- to manage restructuring processes,
- to accompany refurbishments,
- or urgently needed management capacities until viable internal solutions are found.

What characterises interim managers in both scenarios is their ability to quickly familiarise themselves with complex situations, act independently and take a pragmatic and solution-oriented approach. They create real added value - exactly where it is most urgently needed.
