The tingling sensation of a new interim management mandate - the fascination of the unknown
The moment I arrive at a new customer for the first time is always characterised by a special tingling sensation. New faces, diverse challenges and an unfamiliar corporate culture welcome me and invite me on an exciting journey. It's the feeling of uncertainty that triggers both nervousness and anticipation, as I wonder what to expect.
The question of the customer's expectations is central to this initial phase. Do they already have a clear idea of their needs, or do we need to find a way to specify them together? The first workshops are crucial here, as they provide information about the dynamics in the team. Who is sitting in front of me? How open are those involved to change? And where are the actual challenges that need to be overcome?
The foundation of every successful collaboration is trust. How quickly this trust can be established will have a significant impact on the progress and effectiveness of the mandate. Without trust, any form of exchange remains superficial and real progress will hardly be possible.
It is obvious that routine and predictability are not possible in this context. Rather, it is the variety of experiences that helps to develop security and enjoyment in the work.
